Abstract

This study aims to identify the nature of artificial intelligence (AI) applications used in scientific research by faculty members and to analyze the transformations that AI applications have brought about in research practice. It also seeks to uncover faculty members' perceptions of these applications. The study adopted a qualitative approach, deemed the most suitable for the nature of the topic. The study aims to understand the meanings, perceptions, and experiences that faculty members hold regarding the use of AI applications in scientific research.

 

The study population consists of faculty members at Al-Zawiya University who have experience or knowledge of using AI applications in research. The study employed a purposive sampling method, a suitable approach for qualitative studies, where participants are selected based on their ability to provide information related to the phenomenon under study. The sample comprised (15) faculty members, taking into account diversity in specialization, academic rank, and experience. The study concluded that AI has become part of the social transformations affecting the university as an institution for knowledge production. These applications are not merely technological tools; they reflect a shift in the nature of research and the roles of researchers. The study recommends developing training programs for faculty members on the academic use of artificial intelligence, as well as establishing a university ethical code to regulate its use in scientific research.
