Abstract

The visual arts, in their themes, concepts, and vivid imagery, express the lives of peoples, the renaissance of nations, their civilizations, and their progress. They represent a rich record of artistic values that have shaped humanity's development throughout different eras. This is why the term "visual art" is used in various cultural fields. Furthermore, the concept of "education through art" has emerged, along with another concept that states: "Art is a means of knowledge." Therefore, visual arts activities have been incorporated into curricula, syllabi, and educational programs to develop innovative abilities, creative skills, and aesthetic values. Art has become one of the best contemporary educational tools, and thus, the field of visual arts is considered one of the approaches within modern educational sciences for developing a well-rounded personality—physically, artistically, intellectually, and emotionally.

Modern and evolving educational concepts have led to the development of art curricula based on modern scientific principles and their connection to various scientific theories and methods for developing the concept of artistic creation as a foundation for all art forms. Art education is no longer solely about imparting technical information and manual skills, but rather about nurturing the student's intellectual, creative, and aesthetic abilities, and guiding these abilities to achieve positive outcomes.

Contemporary art activities are not isolated from other subjects. Their aim is not self-contained, but rather to understand their relationship to the school, the environment, society, and the global developments in various artistic activities, as well as economic and social development. Like other fields of knowledge and education, art is subject to continuous development and renewal in an effort to keep pace with rapid technological and intellectual advancements and contemporary social transformations. Therefore, it connects and interacts with various educational sciences and diverse fields of human knowledge, drawing from them its educational philosophy, information, curricula, presentation methods, and assessment techniques. Fine arts activities are considered one of the most important and prominent areas of educational activities because they work to develop imagination, aesthetic taste, and aesthetic education in students, and develop their manual, mental, and muscular skills. All of this gives them a cognitive, cultural, and intellectual store of knowledge in discovering the aesthetic values of formal vocabulary and reducing it to the point of abstraction by expressing styles in which the final result is expressions that include compositions derived from natural subjects, then expressing them through lines, shapes, spaces, and colors with different signs and symbols. This achieves what is intended in a way that is not about simplification as much as it is about creating new axes for the mind. That is, it is the thought that is capable of diversification, creation, and innovation for new artistic solutions based on mental and experimental perceptions. This is with the aim of extracting what is constant and lasting and dispensing with what is non-essential and incidental in the form of aesthetics.
