The evolution of the integration of hybrid technologies to improve intelligent interior design systems: a comprehensive review

The last decade has witnessed remarkable development in the field of smart technologies and global communication systems, paving the way for innovative smart interior design strategies. This comprehensive review aims to explore the evolution of the integration of hybrid technologies into smart interior design systems, focusing on their role in improving functionality, sustainability and user experience. This paper relies on qualitative review methodology using a meta-synthesis approach to analyze and interpret data from the selected studies. The research reviews the theoretical foundations of smart design, the development of the concept of smart buildings over the past decades, and the basic systems of smart design including building automation systems, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence. The research also addresses the impact of smart materials and smart furniture in finding innovative design solutions, strategies for managing resource consumption, and sustainable design applications. The review found that incorporating hybrid technologies into interior design significantly contributes to enhancing energy efficiency, improving indoor environmental quality, and providing personalized user experiences, while reducing the carbon footprint of buildings. She also stressed the importance of using Building Information Modeling (BIM) programs as a pivotal tool in anticipating construction requirements and reducing waste. The results indicate that smart interior design is not just a passing trend, but rather a paradigm shift in the way we design and interact with built environments, which calls for designers and researchers to continue studying and analyzing the implementation of these technologies.
