Effect of Stratification Timing on Breaking Dormancy and Germination of De-shelled Peach (*Prunus persica*) Seeds

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of stratification periods on the germination percentage, germination rate, and vegetative and root growth characteristics of peach seeds. The study took place at a farm in the Abu Hadi area of Sirte during the 2023 season. It involved four treatments representing stratification periods (0, 10, 20, and 30 days), arranged in a completely randomized design with three replicates. The results can be summarized as follows:
Regarding germination percentage, germination rate, and root growth characteristics, the 30-day stratification period recorded the highest significant values compared to the other treatments for germination percentage, root system length, number of roots, and fresh and dry root system weights. The exception was the germination rate, for which the control treatment recorded the highest significant values during the agricultural season.
Secondly, regarding vegetative growth parameters, the 30-day stratification treatment recorded the highest significant values compared to the other treatments for shoot length, number of branches, and fresh and dry shoot weights, whereas the control recorded the lowest significant values for the growing season.
