Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the level of quality of strategic decision-making among basketball coaches in the Libyan Premier League. the researchers used the descriptive approach in the form of survey studies because it was suitable for the nature of the study and its objectives. the study population consisted of (33) coaches in the Libyan Premier League. The sample size was determined based on Cochran's equation (Cochran, 1977) with a finite population correction coefficient. however, the researchers targeted the entire study population. The data collection process resulted in obtaining (21) questionnaires valid for statistical analysis, with a response rate of (63.6%) of the study population. The study relied on a questionnaire form consisting of (30) items distributed across six dimensions: clarity of vision and objectives, the strategic decision-making process, challenges and pressures, follow-up and evaluation, flexibility and adaptability, and the accuracy of the strategic decision, according to the five-point Likert scale. The results of verifying the psychometric properties showed that the instrument enjoyed good degrees of validity and reliability, as Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the instrument as a whole reached (0.87), which confirms its suitability for field application. the results showed that the level of quality of strategic decision-making among the coaches of the Libyan Premier League was generally high, ranking first after the accuracy of the strategic decision, followed by clarity of vision and objectives, then flexibility and adaptability. Monitoring and evaluation, and the strategic decision-making process, were among the most important factors, while challenges and pressures ranked last and at a low level. The results also showed that coaches possessed a good ability to analyze information, choose appropriate alternatives, and take responsibility for decisions. However, there is a need to enhance the participation of technical and administrative staff in the decision-making process. The study recommended strengthening the culture of strategic planning within sports clubs, organizing training programs to develop decision-making skills, encouraging teamwork and institutional participation, and conducting future studies that link the quality of decision-making to other leadership and administrative variables.
