Abstract

Adding organic fertilizers alongside chemical fertilizers has been shown to significantly improve soil fertility and boost crop productivity. However, the optimal mixing ratio between chemical and organic fertilizers in rapeseed cultivation remains uncertain, as does its role in improving nutrient uptake efficiency. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of adding compost at different ratios of the recommended fertilizer on nutrient utilization efficiency. Compost was mixed with the recommended doses of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium at different ratios (25, 50, 75, and 100%). In addition to the control, the study assessed the elemental composition of turnip plants, as well as nutrient use efficiency and nutrient uptake. The recorded results included data on the macronutrient composition (N, P, K) of both leaves and roots, along with the quantities of these elements taken up by the plants. Plant growth response increased with higher rates of mineral fertilization compared to the control; however, the highest nutrient use efficiency and crop response were achieved at levels of 50–75% of the mineral fertilizer rate combined with compost—an approach that ensures high efficiency while reducing chemical inputs. We conclude that integrated fertilization, combining chemical fertilizers and compost, is an effective strategy for enhancing nutrient response and use efficiency in turnips and for achieving sustainable agriculture.
