The research aimed to study population distribution in Libya and identify its impact on the political power of the state by analyzing the geographical distribution of the population, demographic transformations related to population growth and age structure, and examining the role of human resource development through education, labor force participation, and economic and political participation. It also aimed to reveal the impact of internal migration and displacement on political and social stability.
The research employed the descriptive analytical approach to study population characteristics and distribution and analyze the relationship between demographic variables and political power. It also used the historical approach to trace demographic developments across different periods, and the statistical approach to analyze population data and tables. The research relied on official data issued by statistical authorities, international reports, and scientific studies and references related to population studies and political geography.
The research concluded that population distribution in Libya is characterized by spatial imbalance due to the concentration of most of the population in coastal areas, which affects development, stability, and territorial management. It also concluded that human resource development, through educational advancement and the growth of the labor force, represents a fundamental element in strengthening the political power of the state. Furthermore, migration and internal displacement contributed to reshaping the population map and creating social and developmental challenges, while increased women’s political participation represents an indicator of human resource development.
The research recommended adopting population policies that achieve regional balance, enhancing investment in education and training, addressing the effects of displacement and migration, and supporting women’s participation in public life. It also suggested conducting future studies on long-term population planning and the impact of demographic transformations on the future political power of the Libyan state.
